About
This Work
Novum Membranes was contracted to fabricate and supply nine ETFE Champagne canopies across three separate lawn areas, all positioned at the same level and orientation. The project was designed with the intention of allowing grass to grow beneath the structures, making ETFE the optimal cladding material due to its superior light transmission compared to alternative products. Each canopy features a bespoke steel structure manufactured by Novum Structures. The steel finish was C5, galvanised dipped to 80 micron, and wet paint finished. The main columns are designed as an internal gutter system, so the water outlets are part of the supporting steel structure. The canopies are clad with a single 400μm ETFE panel, fabricated to fit the full outer perimeter and fixed to the head ring. A powder-coated (PPC) aluminium pyramid cap completes the design at the apex, offering both a functional and aesthetic finish.
